Description: The 6k loop goes north to Hammond and back. From Carruthers Park walk along the Columbia River dike to Hammond, passing a library, a firehouse and the Hammond Boat basin ("Free Willy"-1993) to your checkpoint near the gazebo. Returning to Carruthers Park you will pass another viewpoint and a picturesque building which used to be the Point Adams Coast Guard Station. The Coast Guard Station was built in 1938 on the site of the Point Adams Life Saving Station (1887). A matted pencil sketch of these 2 buildings commemorating our Marine Heritage is available for sale at the registration point. The 7k south loop goes to Warrenton and back. From Carruthers Park you will walk south to Warrenton, passing the water treatment plant, the DK Warren Estate, and the Warrenton Boat Basin on the Skipanon River, and then return to Carruthers Park. Flat route on packed gravel, paved trail or city streets, with a few blocks on the road shoulder. Stunning river views with Astoria and the bridge in the distance.

Start Point: 1180 Pacific Drive, Hammond, Oregon. From Astoria, follow US 30 west and then HWY 101 south. Right onto E. Harbor Drive by Walgreens. At 4 way stop in Warrenton continue straight and drive to the blinking light 4-way stop in Hammond, where the store will be on the left. From Seaside, follow HWY 101 north. Left onto E. Harbor Drive by Walgreens and continue as above. Register here then drive short distance to begin walk. Driving directions are on walk route instructions.

Comments: The Daniel Knight Warren House, a building of frame construction completed in 1885 at the cost of $8,000, is among the outstanding houses of the late Victorian period in Clatsop County, Oregon. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
