Residential Trail is primarily on sidewalks and paved pathways with some natural surfaces. Highlights include Brookside Botanical Gardens with ponds, seasonal gardens and the Conservatories with changing colorful displays and a working miniature train. NO PETS ALLOWED IN GARDENS, but there is an optional pet trail (rated 2+). Another optional trail stays within the gardens and has a 5K option. Fee for IVV credit or non-IVV credit is $3.00. From the Capital Beltway (I-495) take exit 31A and follow Georgia Ave/Rt.97 north toward Wheaton for about 3.1 miles. At Randolph Rd. turn right. At the second traffic light, turn right on Glenallan Ave. Follow Glenallan Ave to Brookside Gardens on the right. Park in the first parking lot. If that lot is full, return to Glenallan Ave, turn right and park in the second lot off Glenallan or the lot near the Nature Center. The box containing registration materials is located in the lobby of the Visitor Center.
