A small, rural, waterfront village centrally located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia with a history that begins with the discovery by John Smith in 1608 of the site that is now Onancock, Virginia. The walk will pass the Historic Hopkins & Brothers Building and other sites. Ker Place is the headquarters of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society . Built 1799-1803, for prosperous merchant-farmer John Shepherd Ker and his wife Agnes Corbin Ker, this federal style house is open as a house museum with guided hourly tours and exhibits of Eastern Shore history (admission is charged). 69 Market St. (State Route 179) Phone 757-787-8012. Take U. S. 13 North or South following signs to Onancock. Go west on State Route 179 for approximately 2.0 miles from the intersection of Rt. 13 and Rt. 179. Ker Place is on the right side of the road.
