Davis Mountain State Park, 2708.9 acres in size, is located in Jeff Davis County, four miles northwest of Fort Davis. It is approximately halfway between the Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Carlsbad Caverns, and Big Bend National Park. The original portion of the park was deeded to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department by a local family. Original improvements were accomplished by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1933; the park has been open to the public in since the late 1930s; formal campground facilities were added in 1967. The walk is on trails in the park and there are lots of deer, wildlife and birds to see.

209 N. State ST, Fort Davis, TX 79734. From Midland/Odessa: Take I-20 west to Pecos. From Pecos take TX-17 south through Balmorhea to Fort Davis. (About 2.5 hours). From San Antonio: Take I-10 west to Balmorhea. Then take TX-17 south to Fort Davis. (About 7 hours). From El Paso: Take I-10 east to Van Horn. At Van Horn take US-90 east. Just south of Valentine take CR-505 and then TX-166 east. Turn left on TX-17 and follow it to Fort Davis or continue south on US-90 to Marfa and then turn left on TX-17 to Fort Davis.
