Description:

Daily, 6am-8pm. Out and back through Lyle and on the Klickitat Trail, an old Burlington Northern Railbed along the wild & scenic Klickitat River with lots of wild flowers and bird watching opportunities. The 11K walk passes through Yakama and Klickitat Indian Ceremonial and fishing grounds and by one of their burial sites. No trespassing! First 3K of the Klickitat trail to Fisher Hill bridge (7K turn around) is improved packed gravel, suitable for big wheel strollers. View the Lyle Falls north from the bridge. 7K rated 1+, easy walk. Beyond the Fisher Hill bridge the trail is unimproved but entirely passable -- wear sturdy shoes. Dogs allowed on leash only and must not be allowed off the trail. No smoking. Bring water. Sunny, so wear a hat and use sunscreen. Stay on the trail. Do not trespass on lands off the trail. Poison Oak along the edges in some places. Check for ticks after you walk. New restroom facilities at SR14 trailhead turnout and in the laundramat next door to the start, but no others along the trail. See www.klickitat-trail.org for information about the trail. 615 State St (SR14). From I-84 Hood River, take the Hood River bridge to Washington state. Turn right on WA SR14, 11.1 miles to Lyle. From Vancouver, SR14 east 76 miles to Lyle. From Yakima, take I-82E to US97 to SR14. Slight right on SR14, 24.4 miles to Lyle. Lyle Merchantile is on the east end of town. The walk box is on the right as you enter the store. Please mail in your credit fee in the envelope provided.
